Covenant with Christ International has been involved in reaching out to those in prison since 2008.
Between 2008 through 2012, our ministry was focused mainly on prison outreach. That included teaching in faith-based dorms at the CT Terrell prison unit and at the Plane State Jail. These classes consisted of re-entry programs, seminary classes and worship services. In the faith-based dorms, there were 56 men or women in the classes at any one time. The participants graduated the programs every six or twelve months, according to the specific prison guidelines. We saw over one-thousand men and women come through these programs within the four-year period our programs lasted. The implementation of these specific programs was proven to reduce recidivism rates in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison system. As a result, these faith-based programs are now mandated for each unit.
Additional programs we conducted in the prison system, consisted of gospel crusades and “a Day with Mom or Dad” events. We held 2-4 per gospel crusades per year at various prisons in Texas. During the crusades we gathered up to 200 offenders together and conducted worship services with special speakers. We even brought motorcycles into the meetings for the offenders to view. We donated hygiene items to each offender that attended. We estimate that our programs impacted at least 2,000 offenders.
Currently, we provide educational and religious programming including special event outreach programs in 5 prison units in Texas. We have hosted 5 to 7 worship services monthly and we have visited over 6,500 offenders each year providing them positive biblical teaching and offering hope through the love of Jesus Christ.
In 2019, we received the Governor's Community Service Award for our outreach programs in and out of the Texas Prison System.
We look forward to reaching out to those men and women behind the walls with the love and compassion of Christ.
